Life’s Extras · Motorcycle & RV

Motorcycle & RV, explained.

For the weekends that matter most.

What it covers

Two very different vehicles with the same question: what happens to the thing you love when it is parked, and when it is not. A motorcycle policy looks like auto insurance with a few extras. An RV policy adds the parts of a home policy, because for a while, it is one.

  • Liability

Injuries or damage you cause to others on the road. Whether the state requires it, and for which vehicles, differs between Florida and Illinois [confirm motorcycle and RV requirements in each state].

  • Collision and comprehensive

Your own bike or RV after a crash, theft, fire, storm or vandalism, minus a deductible.

  • Gear and custom parts

Often an add-on rather than part of the base policy: riding gear, helmets and aftermarket parts on a motorcycle; awnings, satellite dishes and upgrades on an RV. The policy wording decides what counts and how it is valued.

  • RV extras

Depending on the policy: personal belongings inside, emergency expenses if a trip is interrupted, and a full-timer option when the RV is your home. Not every carrier offers each of these, so it is worth asking.

One good first question

“Is this a weekend thing or where I live, and does the policy know the difference?”

Bring this one to Elona and the rest of the conversation gets easier.

What Elona looks at

  • How it is used: weekends, long trips, or full-time living, which changes an RV policy considerably.
  • Where it is stored in the off-season, and whether coverage can be reduced while it is parked.
  • Roadside assistance and trip interruption, which matter more the further from home you go.
  • Who rides or drives, and their experience with that kind of vehicle.
